How to Raise a Young Sports Champion
If you want your child to grow up a physically active individual with a heart for sports, here are time-tested rearing tips for you. But first, take note that it is not wise to pressure your young one to learn a particular sport or develop a certain skill at once. You may have to take it slow and easy, keeping in mind that locomotive development is a gradual process that requires ample time and enough nurturing.
Starting from the infancy stage, choose toys that are interactive and engaging. Opt for playthings that will encourage him to make use of his reflexes and voluntary movements, such as balls and rattles. They should be able to promote healthy muscle and bone development.
Furthermore, when your child reaches the toddler stage, you can start introducing ball games, such as basketball and football. It would be a brilliant idea to buy kiddie versions of certain sporting equipment like basketball rings, baseball bats and the like. You should also allocate enough space for him to run around and perform other physical activities. However, you cannot expect your little champion to discover things on his own; you may have to lend him a helping hand at times! Showing him how to do tricks and playing with him will make a great difference in the future.
Lastly, help him or her develop a healthy lifestyle. Introduce him to the basics of proper nutrition and exercise. As much as possible, avoid exposing him to junk foods and other products that may only hinder the development of his bones, muscles and overall health.
